This position requires the ability to visually grade and mark lumber in a fast-paced production line environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • The Lumber Grader will examine rough-sawn lumber and sort according to industry standards.
  • The Grader will visually scan lumber for any defects or unsatisfactory machine work.
  • Grades, tallies lumber, and performs moisture tests to obtain grade board footage
  • Ensures appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn and used properly.
  • Understands OSHA requirements for the lumber grading area, keeps clean and free of hazards
  • Maintains grader equipment
  • Works closely with operations on lumber quality
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • NHLA certified
  • Understanding of grade rule material and grades of lumber
  • Open communication with Operations regarding lumber product
  • Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.

Education and Experience:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • A minimum of three (3) years of Lumber Grading experience preferred.

  • Position is associated with pushing, pulling, twisting, climbing, reaching, stretching, and working in tight positions.
  • The employee is frequently required to lift 10 to 50 pounds and occasionally required to lift over 50 pounds.
  • The employee is frequently required to carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally required to carry over 50 pounds.
  • Inside Conditions: Extremes of heat (100+ seasonal), humidity, working in tight areas, and noise (from production machinery).
  • This position warrants continuous walking, twisting, bending, stooping, and lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in an environment that is dusty, dirty, oily, noisy, hot, and humid.
